Why choose Acorns? - a quick summary of why we are different to other preschools;

  • Acorns is led by a qualified Early Years Teacher who holds a degree in early education and also has a Masters Degree in Educational Improvement, development and Change, and we have a second qualified Early Years Teacher, who holds Qualified Teacher Status.
  • All staff are qualified to level 3 or above
  • All 5 members of staff hold a current pediatric first aid certificate
  • All staff are fully trained in safeguarding children
  • We use 'Learning Stories' to record children's progress. The learning stories are written to the children to help them to recognise and understand what they have learnt, how they have learnt it, and to enable them to look back at the learning which they have built up over time. The Learning Stories are also shared with parents, as the people who know their children best.
  • All staff have food hygiene training.
  • We have a trained mental health first-aider who is qualified to support both children and adults with their mental well-being
  • Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (Senco) completes termly training to ensure that she is up to date with supporting children who have a range of additional or different needs and disabilities.
  • We are committed to supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds, to give them the best start possible.
  • We love the outdoors and we spend as much time as we can outside - we believe that anything that can be learnt inside can be learnt just as well outside (if not better!)
  • We have extensive experience of supporting children's speech and language development
  • Our Physical and Nutritional Coordinator (Panco) supports us in providing up to date advice on keeping children healthy.
  • Acorns encourages all staff to take part in a wide range of Continuous Professional Development courses, and we plan for staff training to ensure that we are up to date with the latest knowledge of early education. Some courses taken by staff include; meeting the needs of boys, supporting literacy, early phonics, trauma informed practice, Autism awareness, anti-racism training, among many other topics.
  • We have a key person system so that each member of staff has a small group of children who we get to know extremely well, which means that educational programmes are planned for children's individual strengths and interests.
  • We have received 3 outstanding Ofsted gradings, the most recent one in 2016.
  • We LOVE children and we all love working with them. Every day is an adventure. Acorns is always full of happiness, laughter and love.
